Good Day.

I have got a question about a router, I'm know stuff about pc, but not modems and routers.

Can I get a adsl modem wireless router, where the telephone cable, RJ11 plugs straight into the router.

I've bought two wireless routers but both have RJ45 connections to the internet.

If anyone can help I would be most greatful.

God Bless

Yes I'm sure they do make them as I've seen cable modems with built in router and wireless access point. I'll be honest though, they are generally not as good, they don't let you leverage as much control over them as normal routers do, plus you usually have to pay $5-$10 bucks monthly for them. You will probably have to search online for a aDSL modem with built in router and WAP online to buy one.
Also if you buy the modem with built in router it makes it hard to upgrade to newer technology (such as N series routers). It is also more difficult to dignose connectivity issues with the internet. Just a heads up ;).

P.S. Thanks for the God Blessing, may Darwin bless you back [athiest ;-) ]

Yes you may be able to find a router that has a built in switch and aDSL modem. In reality you don't need one and probably won't want one. You will want to be sure that your Internet Service Provider will allow you to use your own modem as some are very strict about what modem you use. I currently have the modem that was provided to me when I purchased my service and a Sonic Wall Router/Firewall. You won't need something as expensive as a SonicWall, you definitely get along fine with a Linksys or Netgear.

To connect your ADSL Modem to your router just plug a patchcord from the RJ45 output of the modem to the "WAN" or "Internet" port of the router. You may need a crossover cable which you can get at fry's, I got mine pretty inexpensively at www.cablesupply.com

Most of the linksys and netgear routers require little configuration so as long as it is set to the factory defaults it should work. However you may need to set up a little bit of info but it shouldn't be too hard.

E-mail me if you have any problems
