You can increase the bandwidth in Windows XP by taking back 20% of your bandwidth that is not being used.

click on start
click on run
type: gpedit.msc
Expand the Computer Configuration
Expand Administration Templates
Expand Network
Expand Qos Packet Scheduler
Now to the right it will say Limit reservable bandwidth
Double Click on that Limit reservable bandwidth
Change it to Enable and change the 20% to 0%
Click apply then okay
Reboot the PC

Goto www.speedguide.net and download TCP Optimizer to tweak your internet, TCP. If you have XP SP2 there was a problem with TCP connections being limited so you if you might want to to a search on yahoo to see how to get the TCP fix. Once that is applied you can see a huge jump in speed.

Also run spyware checker on your system for malware, adware and spyware with bad cookies, these can slow the PC down. Also for viruses too.

There is a program called Ad Muncher that can increase the bandwidth by removing ads off sites. I use it, but it's not for free though. You can try it and see if you like it.
